Key responsibilities

  1. Procurement and Sourcing:
    • Source fruits and vegetables from local growers, wholesalers, and distributors to ensure a diverse and fresh product selection.
    • Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms with suppliers to maintain competitive pricing and availability.
    • Monitor market trends and seasonal availability to adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
  2. Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate inventory records and manage stock levels to meet customer demand.
    • Implement inventory control measures to minimise waste, spoilage, and shrinkage.
    • Coordinate with the store’s general manager or operations manager to optimize stock levels and storage conditions.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Inspect incoming shipments of fruits and vegetables for quality, freshness, and adherence to specifications.
    • Implement quality control procedures to ensure that only the highest quality produce is displayed for sale.
    • Train and supervise staff on quality standards, handling procedures, and food safety practices.
  4. Product Presentation and Promotion:
    • Design and maintain attractive displays of fruits and vegetables to maximise sales and customer appeal.
    • Implement merchandising strategies to promote seasonal produce and special promotions.
    • Monitor product presentation, cleanliness, and organisation of the produce department.
  5. Customer Service:
    • Assist customers with product selection, storage, and preparation.
    • Address customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback regarding product quality or availability.
    • Engage with customers to promote special offers, seasonal products, and healthy eating habits.
  6. Compliance and Food Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the department.
    • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to fruits and vegetables.
