With over 20 years of experience in HR, Sonia Kalachand, SWAN’s Manager-Group HR Operations spoke candidly about inclusion, adaptability, and the importance of letting go of outdated mindsets, especially regarding generational comparisons in the workplace.
Breaking the mould
For SWAN, participating in a job fair for the first time was significant.
The open space buzzed with energy, background music added vibrancy, and the smell of food filled the air. Most importantly, face-to-face conversations created a warmer, more authentic experience than the usual corporate setting.
Through their presence, SWAN shared a simple yet powerful message: we’re open. They welcomed CVs, conversations, and opportunities to discover people for who they are, not just what’s on paper.
From Volatility to Vitality: Engaging the new generation of talent
The discussion also highlighted the new generation of talent entering the workforce.
Although some employers perceive Gen Z’s restlessness as instability, SWAN frames it as dynamism and curiosity.
“They adapt quickly, want to learn, and aim to shape careers that reflect who they are,” we learned. Rather than resisting this energy, HR professionals are encouraged to embrace it as a strength that brings creativity and resilience to organisations.
What HR really needs today
SWAN identifies several priorities for modern HR teams:
