About the Company

A former sugar refinery carefully rehabilitated following its closure in 1999, after 200 years of operation, L’Aventure du Sucre is a precursor heritage site of cultural tourism in Mauritius.

Located in the north of the country, in Beau Plan, and next to the famous Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses, this eco-museum offers a 5,000 m² course and 10 interactive thematic spaces inviting you to travel. A cultural walk that invites you to discover the history of an island shaped by sugar, a vibrant tribute to the Mauritian people and human genius.

The site gives pride of place to the secrets of cane, this exceptional plant which makes it possible to produce sugar and many co-products including rum, bagasse for electricity and natural fertilizers. The visitor strolls through the heart of the gigantic mills, steam engines, cookers, centrifuges of the period. This sugar cathedral offers original didactic and aesthetic material and focuses on emotion by using immersive museography and staging that allow you to go beyond the explanation and experience the subject.
